Laser Spine Institute Patient Testimonial: Stories of Hope and Courage 5

Yvonne's story was featured in last month's issue of our monthly newsletter, The Spinal Column . Having led an active lifestyle, prior to debilitating back and neck pain, this story resonated with me, as I'm sure it will with many of you.  Regaining the ability to do the things you love, whether it is walking to the park or on the beach, playing your favorite sport, dancing with your spouse, or holding a child or grandchild, is truly liberating. If you are experiencing back or neck pain, I hope

Hello from Scott

Sun 16 Aug 2009General I am sorry that it has taken me so long to update everyone. Wanted to let everyone know that I am doing very well . The last month or so has been a very positive experience for me. I am understanding what Shauna had been trying to teach me over the twenty one wonderful years that we were married. Shauna now knows that she did absolutely make a difference in this world that we live in. I now know what a tremendous difference she made in my life. It has been a very powerfu

Birds, windows, and buildings

A report on Monagbay.com last month looked at the problem of birds colliding with windows - and provided a very surprising (to me at least) statistic: according to a study by Dr Daniel Klem Jr over a BILLION birds are killed in window-strikes a year in the US (far more than through hunting and by domestic cats in fact - though the combined totals are even more horrifying)! It’s hard to get your head around that figure, but if it’s accurate it means that - given that that there are 31 556 926

Miguel Cabrera’s RBI

Miguel Cabrera knocked out four hits Saturday night, including his 24th home run of the season as Detroit went on to a 10-3 win over Kansas City. Cabrera drove in three runs bring his total for the season to 70. That total seems low to for someone hitting as well as Cabrera this year. He ranks 15th in the AL in RBI, which isn’t bad. The RBI Percentage report, however, shows that he’s not doing a great job of driving in the runners he finds on base. He’s come to the plate with 301 runners on

On sailing a Folksong – Fram and Eric Bergqvist

I am not the only one owning a Folksong. In fact, compared to some, I am very much the novice – (as anyone who has read this blog for a while can testify). However, I have learnt a thing or two and I know a gem when I see it. Kite gybe This is Fram. The picture speaks for itself. Mike Burns wrote at the end of last month: “I home completed a Folksong in 1984 . . . and still have her . . . “Maiden voyage in 1985 was circumnavigation of the north of Scotland, ie. clockwise For

Introvert vs. Extrovert by Guest Author Jacqueline Kolosov

The Old Norse rost is “league, distance after which one rests. ... At my book signing last month, a woman I’ve long wanted to get to know, but haven’t...I did not take a semester-long maternity leave. ... The etymology of rest is illuminating here because it comes from the Germanic rasto and its original sense was as a measure of distance....

Hawaii’s Renewable Portfolio Standards: Aggressive But in Need of Qualification

From:  Andrea Just last month, Act 155 was passed in the Hawaii Legislature, amending Hawaii’s renewable energy law. One of the highlights of this amendment was the strengthening of Hawaii’s Renewable Portfolio Standards (often abbreviated as RPS).  These standards are binding for electric utility companies, which must satisfy the specified percentage of their net electricity sales with electricity generated from renewable energy sources by the specified date. Now, Hawaii’s Renewable Port
